Calhoun Falls Horse Trail Map on Lake Russell
This horse trail is not maintained but is a lot of fun.
Take Note: This horse trail took us 6 years to build, without any gov. town or county help.
( none was every offered anyway.)
This trail was built by Tri S Ranch and the horse riding people of Abbeville and other Counties, enjoy..

The building labled TOWN STABLES , WAS where 1 of our working (2003) 300 foot long barns and horse stables were.
We will rebuild but that could take a while so we don't do any guided rides right now. If you will be using these trails, if you have any questions, You can also email me .
Information on Trail
This map shows 9 sections used for trail rides and training. Ride time is estimated. This is a Wilderness  Outback Trail. All Trails subject to change by Mother Nature. Meaning is, that it's not a daily maintained trail. Mother Nature has a way of dropping a limb or two along your way, that's all.
WOOD TRAILS AND OR LAKE TRAILS.
SECTION 1
This area on the east side of Calhoun Falls takes you to TRI S RANCH off hwy. 72 east - take dirt road beside the church. Turn on dirt road.
SECTION 2
ABOUT 1 OR 2 HOURS
Trail is on the west side of Hwy. 81 and starts in the middle of town beside red light (feed store and stables are gone now). Hwy. 81 splits (n/s) Calhoun Falls in half with the town in front -East and 26000 acres  and the lake behind red light -West. Trails start in town.
Rated: Easy
SECTION 3
RIDE TIME 3 HOURS
Leaves from town and heads west on a wooded trail marked on map, orange on the trees. Trail is a nice easy trail with a few climbing hills, open and cool in the summer.
Rated: Easy to Moderate
SECTION 4
RIDE TIME 4 OR 6 HOURS TO ALL DAY or MORE.
Use sec. 3 to go down to lake.  Sec. 4 takes you on one of our main rides of TRI S RANCH. This ride has two landings. Millwood and Beer Garden , with bathrooms right on the lake edge. Parking and pick up or drop off. This is where we stop for dinner. Use the lake's edge or off the lake to ride in the shade of the thick forest. Orange Marked line is Sec. 4's back line trail. If you come off the lake heading east, you will run into this wood trail (n/s). Helps to know your north and south on the Orange Trail from lake.
Rated: Easy to Hard ( with easy go around for most of the hard spots ).
SECTION 5
RIDE TIME 3 TO 5 HOURS

This wood trail can be accessed by sec. 3 or sec. 4 in their corners. This wood trail offers a little more challenge to the horse and rider.  The end of trail number 5 (meets a closed off paved road) or trail beside road either one leads back to Hwy. 81.

Cross over to old abandoned Rail Road trail. On this RR trail make a left -North when getting on the trail and will bring you north back by trail 3 and trail 2 or into town marked by red line breaks.  * There is one house near town that is very close to RR trail and can be a little unsettling for some horses, around house includes chickens. In general just stuff close to trail, and some times a car. You can go out on the side of Hwy. 81 to avoid this little section..About 100 feet to go around it.

The family who lives there is very nice and we try to avoid any problem that would change that.
Rated: Easy to Hard ( with easy go around for most of the hard spots ).
note: How do I say this,? Tough TRAILS
Use caution here:
    SECTION 6.
SECTION 7.
SECTION 8.
Be forewarned.
These sections are for experienced Riders and Trained Horses.
Meaning, your horse needs to do what you asked, and you the rider need to be able to ride the horse through.
It's no cake walk if you ride this trail, but still a good trail. We suggest caution to any of section 6, 7, 8 If you want to try them.
These sections are used as training areas for us and you will be in a very thick area with not much room for error and no help around for miles. This area is at the very back of the trail system. A real good place to test your horse and your training out. You will find just about anything you want to look for and some things you don't.
Safe riding and always remember to tell somebody when you head out into any remote area riding.
Enjoy the trails, and be safe,
